In the News
Black Seminoles have been in the news for over 200 years, starting in Florida during the Seminole Wars and continuing to the present day. This section includes some of those news articles, starting in the 1840s. In many cases, articles prior to the mid-20th century can be debunked, and even viewed as sensational, but they are nevertheless valuable resources to help the modern reader understand how Black Seminoles were perceived and how those perceptions were shaped. This section also provides an opportunity to include information about other Black Seminole communities, for example in the Bahamas and Oklahoma.
